Painting and Drawing Holidays

Painting Guest £450 – Non Painting Guest £375.

We cater for all abilities; individuals or up to a maximum group of four. This five night art holiday comprises, an introductory evening, three full tuition days and one day to explore the local area and use the full studio facilities. Tuition days consist of instruction, group tutorials & individual support with a qualified & well experienced artist. Each full tuition day will allow practise, consolidation and one to one tutorial time. Tuition takes place in an extensive south facing, fully equipped studio which comprises the entire upper floor of Fresnay Grange, plus a large balcony for sunny al fresco painting. The holiday comprises five nights' accommodation; chambre d'hote full board, except day three when we eat out locally (included in the cost) and day four which is an exploration day (see further detail)

Any materials of your own preference. Digital camera, small pocket sketch book & A4 sketch book, pencils (nothing harder than HB)

All other materials pastels, paints, brushes, etc will be provided in or from the studio

Workshops customised to your particular needs. arranged one to one before arrival

Day 1: Arrival mid afternoon to early evening.

Walk to explore the immediate surroundings and view the beautiful rolling French countryside. Meet & socialise over a leisurely evening meal and settle into the ambience of Fresnay. Confirmation of workshop content.

Day 2: Workshop 1 Working without Colour (sample)
  • Use of line, tone & shadow.
  • Looking for & at a subject.
  • How to position yourself & your paper.
Day 3: Workshop 2 The Use of Colour (sample)
  • Shades & depths of colour.
  • Mixing colour on the palette & paper.
Day 4: Exploration day

Breakfast & evening meal will be provided leaving you free throughout the day, for sightseeing / consolidation. Tourist information leaflets will be available showing places of interest, walks, restaurants and local towns. You can continue undirected sketching & photography to consolidate & inform your work and the studio will also be available all day for your use.

Day 5: Workshop 3 Finding a subject (sample)
  • Sketching from life.
  • Photographs & their use
  • Bringing it all together to produce the finished piece of work.
Day 6: Farewell

After breakfast we will bid you a fond farewell and hope to see you again very soon.
